In September 1968, a Noncommissioned officer in the British army was sleeping soundly in his room at the Dakelia army base on the Island of Cyprus. on the second floor with his wolfhound, the man suddenly was woken up when his dog began angrily growling toward the door. The witness knew something was wrong and immediately suspected someone had broken in.
Initially, the officer believed terrorists had infiltrated the base, so he began approaching the door cautiously. As he did, a strange high-pitched humming sound started up near the bottom of the stairs. Terrified the dog ran under the bed and the officer went out to the hall to investigate.
What he saw next would terrify him for years, along with traumatizing his dog.
On the stairs the man witnesses a strange horrifying apparition floating up the stairs. Unlike other ghosts sightings though, this entity wasn’t fully manifested meaning only the head and shoulders of the entity were visible.
The strange entity had a glowing orange face and reddish orange hair. The being was wearing a light blue jumpsuit and it glared at the officer with a blank stare, never blinking, As it approached the top of the stairs, it turned its head a full 180 degrees toward the man.
Terrified, the witness backed up into his room and slammed and locked the door. Then, the weird humming sound intensified to a deafening pitch. The witness then said there was another sound, like the entity was dragging itself across the floor.
Fearful, the soldier had only one weapon in his room, a speargun, so he grabbed it and fired it through the door. Immediately, the sound ceased and seemingly the creature left. Not being sure and being terrified, the witness stayed in the room refusing to come out.
Around an hour later a patrolling guard found him, and the officer was sitting up speechless, sitting on the side of his bed.
The witness was paralyzed by fear, unable to come to terms with what he saw. In time, the man would recover from this incident although it’s reported his dog never fully recovered. The canine, once an alpha, spent the rest of its life terrified of the slightest sound.
So, did this man imagine this ordeal or really witness this disembodied humanoid?
Many will say that this man experienced a Vivid dream. A Vivid dream is a dream that feels extremely real and people are often unable to tell the difference between real life and their dreams. People have been known to sleepwalk and do strange things as well when they are having a vivid dream. A vivid dream would suggest that he was dreaming that an apparition was coming up the stairs. He may have actually walked out into the hall, dreamed that he was seeing a ghost and then came back into the room and shot the speargun through the door. He could have woken up at any point and thought he actually saw the apparition.
While on the surface the vivid dream makes sense, it does have at least one major flaw: the dog. Its clear that the dog was terrified from something not only that night but down the road in the future.
There’s still questions that seemingly go unanswered though in the UFO report as well. For one, did anyone else on the UFO base hear the deafening noise that night? It doesn’t appear anyone else did, or perhaps it was just left out of the report. Also, did anyone else see the orange light? Guards were definitely around and awake, but maybe their vantage point didn’t allow them to see it.
This incident is surely a creepy one, and it appears that many of these questions will continue to go unanswered.
