The Initial Incident:
In the summer of 1972, things hadn’t been going well for 27-year-old Maureen Puddy. Her son had been seriously injured at school when a cabinet fell on him and broke his leg. Hospitalized, Maureen had been making regular trips to the Royal Children’s hospital in Melbourne, Australia. While things had been stressful with her son’s injury, Maureen had no idea just how much more difficult things would get. In this article, we will examine the strange and frightening UFO encounters that Maureen experienced in 1972.
On July 5, 1972, Maureen left the hospital after visiting her son and drove to her mother’s home for tea. The two women chatted for some time and around 9:15 pm Maureen and her mother said their goodbyes as Maureen needed to head home. That night, an exhausted Maureen decided to take a shortcut on a desolate rural road.
As Maureen drove down the remote country road, she soon would spot a blue light shining down on her car. Initially, she believed it was a helicopter and possibly it was trying to notify her in regard to her son. She decided to pull over on the road and get a better look as to what this object was. What happened next would truly astonish her though.
Maureen looked up in the sky and noticed a large circular object. It was radiating a powerful bright blue light, and the craft was smooth all over with no windows. Perhaps most shocking to Maureen was the size of the craft. Maureen estimated it to be 100 feet in diameter and 24 feet high.
The object had no propulsion system and wasn’t shaking or wobbling. It was quiet with a very faint humming sound.
As she began to understand she didn’t understand what she was looking at, Maureen hopped in the car and began speeding away. The craft took notice though and began following her. She continued driving but the object kept following her no matter how fast she went. Finally, after eight miles the craft shot up in the sky and disappeared. A frightened Maureen would head to the police station in Dromana, but it wasn’t taken seriously.
Maureen’s Second UFO Incident:
Then three weeks later Maureen would have another encounter.
On July 25th, 1972, Maureen would have another experience. Oddly, Maureen followed almost the exact same steps as she did three weeks earlier. She visited her son who was still in the hospital and then stopped by her mom’s home for Tea. She would again leave about 9:15 pm and follow the same route home.
On her journey home, about one mile, the same bright blue light appeared over her car again. Maureen was terrified yet again. She decided not to stop this time and began speeding away. However, soon she would lose control of her car as if had been overtaken. The car would drift to the side of the rode. Horrified, Maureen looked out the windshield and saw the craft hovering above her. She couldn’t drive away though and soon a voice would speak to her.
The voice couldn’t be heard though. The beings seemingly were using telepathy to speak with her. Inside her head she heard the most perfect English she had ever heard say
“If you could be in a vacuum, then I have been in one”.
Next the voice said :
“Don’t be afraid … we mean you no harm…..your tests will be negative … tell the media you are now in control. “
Right after this was said the car started off and Maureen drove away. She again stopped at the police station, although a different one, and the police hesitantly filed a report/
The activity wouldn’t stop at this point though.
More Strange Activity:
Six months later, Maureen started to hear voices in her head telling her to return to the meeting place. Initially, she ignored it, but the voices wouldn’t stop and persisted all day and night.
Scared to return alone, Maureen would ask UFO researchers Judith Magee and Paul Norman to come with her.
On the night Maureen returned to the spot, Magee and Norman drove over to meet Maureen at an electric station near the spot where she had seen the UFO.
As Magee and Norman pulled in the lot before their scheduled meet time of 8:30-9.
As they waited in the car, they saw a wide-eyed Maureen pull in the parking lot and tell how she nearly just almost ran off the road.
The three got into Maureen’s car and she began telling the two what happened on her drive over.
Allegedly, Maureen stated that she saw something out of the corner of her eye. She then looked to the right and saw a strange entity dressed in a gold foil suit. A startled Maureen nearly drove off the road when seeing the being.
The three eventually reached the meeting spot, parked the car and began to talk for a while. Then, Maureen grabbed Judith’s arm shaking and pointing at something in front of them. It was the entity from before. However, the being was only visible to Maureen.
Maureen indicated the being was moving closer and eventually reached the front of the car right in front of the headlight. Maureen was trembling with fear, and Paul decided to step out of the car and walk around it. As Paul walked in front of the car, according to Maureen, the entity moved back to allow him to pass.
The being demanded that Maureen come with him, but she refused. She grabbed onto the steering wheel tightly and the being would soon walk into the brush.
Maureen though wasn’t free, and the being didn’t consider her feelings.
Maureen would soon find herself seemingly in the craft. However, her body was still inside the car, and it was as if the being was controlling her mind and thoughts. Maureen began revealing what she saw to Judith and Paul.
She was inside a large circular room and there was a large mushroom like object in the center that the entity was pointing at. The object was jelly like and seemed to be moving around. Maureen began to panic at this point screaming “I can’t get out”. As she became hysterical, Judith comforted her and asked the entity in her mind to release Maureen. After some time, Maureen came back.
To ensure Maureen got home safely, Judith drove her car home and the three reached Judith’s house around 10:30.
Concluding Thoughts
Maureen’s case is a certainly a fascinating one. The beings seemed to use telepathy and were able to control Maureen’s mind and thoughts. Perhaps most frightening they were able to appear to only Maureen and not Judith or Paul. Still, it seems they sensed Judith’s concern for Maureen and decided to release her.
This case had garnered quite a bit of attention over the years.
Still, there’s plenty of skeptics who question the validity of the case. First, there appears to be only one witness, although some say a second witness did spot the craft as well. Some also believe that Maureen had faked the incident. Other people point out that Maureen might have suffered from schizophrenia as auditory and visual hallucinations are symptoms of the disease.
Skeptics also point out that Maureen attempted to contact multiple media outlets and none of them wanted the story. Still, Maureen says this was done because of the message she received and in order to stop the voices.
However, Maureen’s story does have many believers. For one, two skilled UFO researchers investigated the case and believed that Maureen was sincere. In addition, other UFO cases have shown beings able to communicate telepathically.

While it would have been nice to have a second witness on this case, this is still one case that deserves attention.
