The Haunted Oakwood Cemetery

Oakwood Cemetary, also known as Hell’s Gate, was founded in the 1800’s and is the oldest cemetery in the city of Spartanburg, South Carolina which lies in the northern part of SC, about an hour southeast from Charlotte, NC.

This haunted cemetery is renowned for a variety of paranormal activity occurring. Over the years people have reported seeing Apparitions, hearing screams, and seeing orbs. But that’s not the only strange activity going on. People report feeling sick or are overcome with fear when visiting the cemetery.

The cemetery is generally divided into two parts: the older section of the cemetery is where the activity has occurred.

(Is this Charleston, SC Restaurant Haunted?)

Perhaps the most famous part of this strange activity are the sightings of the Woman in the White. These sightings usually involve feeling a blast of cold air. It is said the Woman in White is surrounded by a mist.

Other strange activity has occurred as well. People report their cell phone dies and some people claim to have recorded the Woman in White but once they see the recording she is no longer there.

Many speculate that this paranormal activity occurs due to the fact the older section houses graves of unknown people. This includes prisoners, mental hospital patients, and the poor.

Like many other hauntings, Hell’s gate possesses several similar characteristics: Apparitions seen by a variety of people, unexplained sounds, and electronics failing.

Maybe one day we will find hard evidence in this graveyard, but for now all the evidence continues to be eyewitness accounts.
