The Vietnan war was a conflict in Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos for around 20 years. Officially, the war was fought between North and South Vietnam, but unofficially, being at the height of the cold war, the US fought alongside South Vietnam and North Vietnam was aided by countries supporting communism such as Russia.
The war was harsh for soldiers, as they fought in the dense jungles. There was much to fear as US soldiers were often killed by enemies attacking from hidden places in the jungle. As such, there was a constant need to be on the lookout and soldiers had to remain vigilant. In 1969, on patrol one night, one group of soldiers would see something that would haunt them for the rest of their days: they spotted something not of this world and this is the story.
In August 1969, Earl Morrison and a group of soldiers were stationed in Da Nang, which is located on Vietnam’s south-central coast. The men were on guard and had orders to being checking for the Vietcong in order to ensure no surprise attack occurred. It was a calm clear and quiet night.
Then, at 1:30 am everything would change. Morrison looked into the sky and saw a dark shape. At first Morrison and the Men thought it was a giant bat, but quickly they realized the creature had gigantic wings and was much too large to be a bat. As it approached, the men were stunned to see that it looked like a woman.
The creature was had black skin and black wings along with black hair. Its wings looked like they were molded to the arms and hands.
It had a greenish glow that illuminated from it. The winged woman or humanoid being flew over the men silently and got to where she was floating silently right above the men, around 6 feet over their heads.
As she flapped her wings it still remained dead quiet. As dark as it was out, the men could see her as she glowed. The men continued watching her as she floated closely to their camp.
Then she flapped her wings and floated off slowly into the night. Morrison said he and the other soldiers watched her for quite some time.
The Story of the Winged woman of Vietnam is definitely a fascinating one. It should be said though that the overwhelming majority of winged cryptids are said to be male or have masculine characteristics. Entities such as the Mothman of Point Pleasant, WV are typically thought of as masculine.

This leads to a variety of interesting theories about what this creature could be.
One theory says the winged cryptid is an evil entity, something that comes from another world. They believe that it appeared as a woman in order to appear less threatening to the men. It’s well documented that sometimes evil entities can take the form of someone innocent like, children or sometime appear as very attractive people.
A second theory is that this creature was an extraterrestrial and came from another planet. There’s reason to believe this is a possibility, and with so few sightings of “Winged Women” it’s tough to gauge their origin.
There’s tales of Winged woman in various cultures such as Wales’s Cyhyraeth.
One other theory is that this winged creature is something that evolved from biological creatures on earth. There are countless stories of US soldiers in the Vietnam war being discouraged from going into deep parts of the jungle. It is said South Vietnamese locals refused to take US soldiers into specific parts of the jungle because of what was there.
Could it be the case these mysterious winged woman-humanoids could have been living in the dense remote parts of the jungle.?
It seems more likely than not that if this creature exists, it is from another world.
One day we might discover the truth, but until then this will be a story many doubt.
