Eureka Springs is a small town located in Northwest Arkansas. The town has a rich history, with people of different Native American tribes visiting the natural springs for healing and a variety of Victorian era homes built by European Settlers. Among these, one hotel sits that has been rumored to be haunted for centuries.
In 1905, in the Basin Park Hotel was opened and right from the get-go it has long been the source of eerie tales, unusual happenings, and hauntings.
Some say the activity is due to the hotel being built on the “grave” of the Perry House, the original hotel on that plot of land that burned to the ground in 1890. Others believe it is because of the mystic quality of the original “healing spring” located nearby.
There has been a variety of paranormal activity reported, with various apparitions being seen. There appear to be reoccurring orbs that are seen on the guest floors. Many have reported seeing human shaped shadows in the Barefoot Ballroom and others claim to see large faces on the inside of the stained-glass windows in the ballroom’s foyer.
One of the more recent stories and perhaps most frightening involves a tour guide. one of the tour guides during an E (electronic voice phenomenon) EVP session started feeling pressure on his throat. The pressure increased and caused him to cough, and soon he was unable to breathe. He scrambled to his feet and left the ballroom hoping to escape the invisible grasp and get some air. When he returned to the ballroom, he pulled his turtleneck down and the group saw red marks encircling a white area at the front of his throat. It appeared as though there were two hands trying to choke him.
With all this activity, perhaps the most well-known has to do with activity in a guest room. the Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC, boasts a famous Pink Room said to be extremely active with paranormal activity and was the subject of a prior post on this site. The Basin Park Hotel too has a guest room known to be very active as well.
Room 307 is said to have a cowboy ghost appear to unsuspecting guests during the night. Also, there is often reported sighting of a young woman who has steel blue eyes and cotton candy blonde hair. Another apparition that appears is the little girl with pigtails in a yellow dress. Some will say though that the most frightening of all these is the various objects moving around by themselves.
Still, like many other haunted places around the US, the Basin Park Hotel seems to be capitalizing on the paranormal activity in the hotel. The Hotel offers a ghost tour that serves as a quasi-paranormal investigation. There certainly appears to be a lot of history in the hotel, and there appears to be a lot more to be written.
